6 Reasons Why You’d Be Happy In A Smaller Home

I have to say I love my small cottage home, and today it is all about “6 Reasons Why You’d Be Happy In A Smaller Home”.

In today’s society, one of the staples of the American dream is to live in a “dream house,” and typically that dream house is portrayed as a big home. There are actually a variety of reasons that people may have a larger home, and most of the time it’s the fact that people need to get more space, and in reality, if they really need more space they could have opted for backyard cottage plans instead of moving.

However, what if you’ve come to the point where you need to downgrade into a smaller home. You may be at the point of your life where you just got married and want to hold off from having kids a few years and you, and your partner don’t need that much space.

It could be also that you and your partner have already had kids, and they’re all grown up now and you don’t need such a big house anymore. It could be that mortgage rates are great and you want to take advantage.

So the solution would be to downgrade and get a smaller home, but what are the benefits of having this smaller home? Today, we will go over these benefits in more detail. Let’s get started!

Top Six Reasons for a Small House

  1. Easy to Maintain

Homeowners know that when you own a house, it takes time to maintain it, may it be by mowing the grass, cleaning the gutters, painting, and other small details that can be tedious.

  1. Better Market

Believe it or not there is actually a better market for smaller homes then there is for larger homes. Most families in the US have shrunk and there is less need for all those extra bedrooms.

Many of the baby-boomer generation are retiring and have struggles of their own, so it makes sense to downgrade the houses they live in go with a smaller home.

  1. Less Debt & Risk

When you consider purchasing a smaller home, you are generally looking for a lower price tag. This means less debt and when banks look at home buyers they take into consideration risk that a lender will default.

The risk goes way down when you are looking to purchase a smaller home and there is a high probability that your loan will go through.

  1. Mentally Refreshing

You have to remember that when you have a smaller mortgage or even no mortgage on your home, you are free from pitfalls that might avail someone who has a bigger home.

You have financial mental clarity when you know that you have the freedom to not to be in indentured to a piece of property. It’s been said regarding our possessions, the more we own, the more they own us.

  1. More Time

Since you have a smaller home, you will have more free time to do what you want to do. Smaller mortgage means more free time as you don’t necessarily have to work a job you don’t want to work at just to make ends-meet. You can work a part-time job if you wanted to and still have more time.

  1. Get Rid of Junk with Fewer Temptations

When you have a big home you can fit a lot of possessions in it, with a small home, you have to compromise. Within this limited space, you will have fewer temptations to buy items that you don’t necessarily need because space is a factor.

Conclusion

The American dream still lives on, but not how it was once portrayed so many years ago. Home ownership is still a key factor, but when you live in a smaller property, it enables you to become virtually debt-free and enjoy what you want to do.
