Four Foolproof Chemical-Free Oven Cleaning Hacks

Cleaning the oven is one of the more painful jobs to do in the kitchen, especially if it has been left for a while. Grease builds up quickly and thick in the oven, meaning you often need to purchase very heavy-duty cleaning products to get it sparkling again.

This can be harmful to both yourself and the environment, but there are chemical-free options out there. If you want to leave the elbow grease to someone else, try checking out Maid2Match Adelaide for some of the best in the business.

Clean with a mix of baking soda and vinegar.
If you want to take a more natural approach to clean your oven, or simply need an alternative to heavy-duty cleaners you’d usually buy from the shop, then baking soda and vinegar is an excellent place to start.

Start by mixing half a cup of baking soda with one cup of water. When combined, this will thicken up and can then be spread on the inside of your oven. You can paste this to all parts of the oven, including the glass door, but avoid the heating elements on the top of the oven.

This works best by leaving the paste for a few hours at least, but longer if possible. You then take the vinegar and fill a spray bottle. The vinegar is sprayed all over the inside of the oven, which forms a chemical reaction that will help remove the tougher stains.

Leave this for another half an hour, and then scrape off and clean as usual with warm water and a rag or sponge.

Use salt for spills.

If you’re baking or cooking something in the oven that spills over, try using salt as a quick way to minimize the effect. Cover the area on the bottom of the oven where the spill is while the oven is still hot, and then wait for it to cool down.

Once the oven has cooled completely, the spill will be much easier to clean.

The hot vinegar treatment
Vinegar appears again as a fantastic chemical-free cleaning alternative. With this method, fill up a pot around 1/3 of the way up, and bring it to the boil on the hob.

Once the water is hot, add equal parts of white wine vinegar and let it heat for another minute until steaming. Remove the pan from the hob and place it into the oven without turning it.

Close the door and let the steam do its thing. The water-vinegar concoction will help the grime in the oven come off so that you can scrub it off much more easily. Leave the pot in the oven for up to an hour for maximum effectiveness.

When life gives you lemons…
In a similar technique to the vinegar treatment above, you can use two full lemons instead to loosen up the grease in your oven. In a similar way, the acid will work at the oven and make the inside much easier to clean.

Just bring water to the boil and add your lemons, halved. Then, take the pan and put it in the oven to steam for an hour.
