ME Being HONEST & REAL~

How hard is it to link to other blogs? if you were ubber inspired by something a blogger made? NOT HARD AT ALL. If you don’t know how to link then at least put down the blog name of the blog you found the great idea from.
I LOVE BLOGGING, I love crafting even more. I love sharing my gift and creativity with all of you. I do this FOR FREE! I am happy to do it for free. I dream of a craft magazine ha! and my mom and sister (of course say I need a magazine so I can  make some real money instead of giving away all my ideas for free.) OK’ they are my mom and sis they are supposed to say that right? Anyway, I truly am not here to toot my own horn! and I am sure this has happened to LOTS and LOTS of talented bloggers. YOU SIMPLY DON’T GET CREDIT FOR YOUR ORIGINAL IDEAS!  because someone(s) is taking your idea creating and making it and then NOT GIVING YOU ONE OUNCE of credit. NOR are they linking back to you, or using your blog name.
It really upsets me, hurts, and feels as though someone has stolen from me. I mean I want to share my ideas with everyone. JUST PAY ME CREDIT. I work hard thinking up my OWN ideas (minus the martha stewart bat treat sacks) I don’t get them anywhere but from my brain My good Ol’ creative brain God has blessed me with HA!
I am a very HONEST person and I can’t imagine taking credit or not linking back to someone’s blog if I made something of theirs. Being virtuous, honest, and classy is how I was raised and it is beyond important to me.
I know that having BLOGS, showcasing crafts, decorating and such can come with a price.  I have FOUND THIS happening to me now “5” times thus far. I hope that we can all be honest with ourselves and others and GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE! THAT’S ALL FOLKS Jen

  1. You are so right! It’s just bad blogger manners. And really, it IS ripping someone off, even if you don’t make money off of it. I always give credit when I create a project based off of someone’s idea because I would want them to do the same. When I first started blogging, there was a project that I did and I couldn’t remember where I’d seen it before. I ended up posting a note that if anyone knew who it was, to let me know so that I could give credit. I’m really so sorry this happened to you.

  2. i couldn’t agree more…
this is something that is not hard to do at all! i always link back to anyone who i get an idea from, and if i can’t remember where i found it, i state that it is not my idea, but that it is not my original and if you are the person reading, please let me know so that i can give you credit.

i am so sorry that this is happening to you!

  3. So sorry that you are hurt, Jen. I love coming to your blog and seeing all of your great ideas. I started blogging a short time ago, and the same thing has happened to me twice now. I sent both bloggers a private email asking them kindly to give credit where credit is due. They both ended up linking back to me. I feel bad for even having to send an email like that…but maybe sometimes it’s necessary?? Not sure. I know one of the bloggers admitted that she got the idea from my blog, but couldnt remember what blog it was from and that was why she didnt like back. So, maybe it’s a misunderstanding? Not sure on this either.

Hugs to you, Jen! And keep doin’ what you do girl! We all love it 🙂

  4. Hey Jen! This has happened to me 4 times now that I know of!! And 2 of them are the same person! And on one of her projects that she did from me, she even emailed me several times during the project and I wrote back all times, and then when I see her post, no link back to me or mention of me at all. It’s pretty frustrating. Then today I see another post of hers that had no link back again, and it clearly should have referenced at least a few bloggers. So annoying!! I have an email composed to her, but I don’t know if I should send or not because it might seem petty, but idk.

You are so creative and it’s a shame you aren’t getting the credit. And especially all of your crafts are totally unique and I know when I see them linked up at other places they are yours! So sorry honey.

  5. That really stinks … I hate when I see familiar ideas that aren’t linked and I know the person didn’t come up with it on their own. I really appreciate all that you share. I’m a huge copycat crafter but I always link back and give credit even if the original idea was just what inspired my own idea.

  6. I saw a project today that is something I made and posted about, but I have to think did they think of it on their own too just like I did. I can’t be the only one with ideas. How do you know when someone really takes your idea? I just read a comment on this about a burlap dry erase board. I made one of those in May. I wasn’t inspired by anyone. I just made it. I noticed today on your blog on the side bar that you have some frames with E A T. I made plates in July and put an E A T on it. I got several comments saying others had that too. I had never remembered seeing it from anyone before. I had to do the EAT because I didn’t have enough letters to do eat love pray which was my first idea. So I hate that this happened to you, me or anyone. My question is how do we really know when it happens.

  7. I’m so sorry this happened to you! That must be frustrating.
Stealing your words and pictures, that’s basically plagiarism and copyright infringement.
    Ideas are harder to ‘own’.
I try really hard to give credit when I remember where I saw an idea. Or even just a general inspiration. It is just the polite thing to do. (And I’m not sure I buy: “I don’t remember where I saw it.” It is easy enough to google the idea. I do that and usually find the post I was looking for.)
So sorry these folks are driving you crazy.

  8. It does stink. I had someone who was copying entire posts from my blog and someone else’s and passing it off on a completely separate site. To me, this goes hand in hand with common courtesy and linking back in general, whether it’s to a blog that is hosting a party, or someone who has shared an idea with you. It’s called etiquette.

  9. I’m sorry that happened to you. I’ve had that happen before to me also. I suggest just writing to the people. The majority of us women are really genuine and nice. It could have escaped their mind. You never know. I have so many blogs on my reader that sometimes I just scroll down and look at pictures and they stay in my mind. Most of the time I link up or write down where I got them but like that one time with you…it escaped my mind. Once you wrote me though, I immediately linked you. Sometimes, we Mom’s just think alike. We use alot of the same materials in style now, etc. Like your canning jar Mummies and Ghost lights…I made similar ones last Halloween. Sometimes we just think alike! I would write to them first. It could be a miss understanding. If they don’t respond, then you know your answer 🙁 But you are creative and brilliant and deserve your credit because it is stealing if there is no linky!

  10. That’s sad. Though it could have been an honest mistake? I know that doesn’t help-I just thought before I posted this response, “Who would do that?” I recently used someone’s idea and linked her AND let her know I was doing it. So, I was feeling pretty smug upon posting this but then the thought occured to me,”ooh, what if I did something like this by accident? and here I am being all smug!”

Anyway, maybe approaching the individuals who’ve recently did this might help? Maybe they don’t know blogger ettiquet? (I th8ink I spelled that wrong) or maybe they need to be called out on their usurping of ideas? You can say it nicely like, “Hey, I am flattered you’re inspired by my ideas, but I’d appreciate it if you credited me with the idea).

I know for myself ifI didn’t credit someone, it was not on purpose and I would want them to point it out!

  11. I’m really glad you posted about this. Sometimes we need to be reminded about etiquette and how things like this impact others. You have a great following on your blog and they recognize all your hard work even if it isn’t acknowledged by others.

  12. Sorry Jen! It is frustrating! It’s even more frustrating when people email me questions about a project and I take the time to answer them and then don’t receive any credit. Boo! Just remember it’s a form of flattery! Love ya! **Kenz**

  13. UGH! I know exactly how you feel…. the same thing has happened to me. I’m sorry. It really sucks. You are an uber creative person and I love visiting your blog to see your latest crafts. Try not to let them get you down – I know, easier said than done. 🙁
I think some people have no original ideas or creativity and the only way than can “create” something is by stealing form others. Sad.

  14. Hey Jen, sorry you are frustrated by this. I remember in design class, my teacher had a saying ~ There are no new ideas, just recycled ideas. Because of this, I tend to think that most of us process the hundreds of ideas that we all see each week until they form newly in our own brains and become new ideas to us. Does that make sense? Plus I agree with Bobbi, I think the majority of us here are nice courteous bloggers.
Now having said all that, re-creating an exact post or project and not linking to the original poster is just wrong. I am shocked that people would do that, especially after emailing for details like some have said happened, wow!
You’re so talented, just keep on doing what you do. One consolation is that imitation IS the best form of flattery.

  15. you tell em! I ALWAYS link back to the original idea when i borrow something – which is ALOT! I have had a few of what I think are original, and I seriously hope I never find anyone toting them as theirs or I’d be spitting mad.

  16. I honestly think that people don’t think. They don’t mean to intentionally hurt you – they are just not thinking about you at all. Unfortunately. BUT this post will help educate those who may not be thinking… and they WILL think next time. (o: Keep up the good work!

  17. Hey Jenn,
I hope it wasn’t me either, but I have been in the biggest crafting slump in that I haven’t made squat lately. maybe that’s cause i’m in the biggest i need a job slump. LOL. but i try my best to link and if i don’t remember where i saw it i always say so and ask for someone to tell me if they know…
sometimes i see posts with something I just did and i am like, hey i JUST posted that, go look at mine, but i guess maybe we all have similar thoughts sometimes? it’s super frustrating though.
    xoxo

  18. That sucks!! Once in awhile I’ll have 15 pages open at once, checking out all the crafty stuff going on on different sites, close them down, then think, that one craft was too cool, I’m gonna try it!! And I can never find the site after! BUT, if I can’t remember where I got the idea from, I ALWAYS post what a dimwit I can be and that I got the idea from another blogger, but can’t remember who and if it was theirs, to comment so I could link back to them. That’s the very least a person can do if they can’t remember! And just plain not linking back and trying to take someone else’s credit is just wrong!!!

  19. O my dear! I totally understand! 🙂 It is SO annoying to feel like your ideas are getting ripped off! Just know how much we LOVE you, and I think you are one of the most creative people I know!!! I adore you and your blog!!
