Cotton Diapers by Grannie L.

My MIL makes and sews “amazing” things for my children. I have talked about her before on my blog and will continually. She has spent some hard work and time tweeking some Fluff Bottoms for Mr. E. how special and lucky am I and Mr. E.
Here is the Fluff Bottom aka Cotton Diaper SCOOP written up from my MIL and typed by me.

The outer fabric is called PUL, Polyurethane laminate. It comes in quite a few colors and I have found a few prints: REd, BlUe, nAVY, gREEn, YELLOW, pInK, bLAcK, oRAnGE. I found mine at JoAnne’s and online at  Celticclothsforwholesale.com .Cost is about $7.50 per yard and I got 8 Diapers out of 11/4 yards.

The lining fabrics I have found that work the best are: micro fleece, which is very soft against baby skin. It has the ability to keep moisture away from baby and keep baby dry. I am aslo impressed with the natural color hemp fabric which is very absorbent but not readily available. I have only found it online. I ordered mine from Celtic Cloths for about $10.00 per yard. It is organic cotton and hemp french terry. Not available at JoAnne’s.

The Soaker pads I used 3 layers of fabric for each soaker pad. Two layer of micro fleece and inner layer of cotton terry cloth. you can add 2-3 soaker pads for night time if you want. I used my serger to sew the 3 layers together.

The Snaps I used have no metal parts and won’t rust in the wash. They are only available online and I found them at several online stores. I purchased mine from Kamsnaps.com and was very happy with their quick service. It is a family owned company in California. I ordered on Friday , and received my order on Monday. They also sell a tool for attaching the snaps. The snaps also come in a variety of colors and kamsnaps sent me a sample of each color snap they carry.

I also made a few diapers with velcro and it was a special kind of velcro which is a bit softer then regular utility velcro called Aplix. I ordered mine from Verybaby.com. I also purchased a basic all in one diaper pattern which has good instructions, however, I am in love with my pattern, Nykibaby, available online.I like how it is adjustable from infant to toddler.

I found many tutorials online on how to sew these diapers and have made alterations and adjustments to my preferences. These tutorials were a good starting point for me.
