DIY- Mod Podge Plates with Vinyl Sayings

Hello my Craft-O-Maniac friends! It’s Abbey from The Cards We Drew and I’m so happy to be back again this month for another fun craft post. This craft is near and dear to my heart because my grandmother did this project with me ALL the time when I was a child. We used to make these for each holiday to display in the kitchen, but there are SO many other uses for Mod Podged Plates.

 Here’s what you’ll need:
Two plates; glass or plastic
Fabric
Mod Podge
Sponge Brush
Scissors
Vinyl or other embellishments
Plate hangers

1. Start by washing and drying your plates thoroughly. The glass plates I purchased are from JoAnn’s for $3.99 each, but I got them buy one get one half off.

2. Lay your plate on the fabric and cut fabric around the plate leaving room on all edges. If you’d rather, you could also trace the fabric and cut it to exactly fit the plate.

3. Once fabric is cut, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge directly onto the plate and then lay your fabric face down onto the back of the plate.
4. Once fabric is down, continue to apply Mod Podge directly onto the fabric on the plate. Don’t be afraid to really get a lot of Mod Podge onto the fabric and work from the inside out to smooth out wrinkles. Be sure to get the sides of the plate and use your fingers to massage the fabric down the sides of the plate, as well.
5. Let the plate dry a few hours until hard. Then trim the fabric on all sides and corners of the plate. After I trimmed, I added another layer of Mod Podge to the sides of the plate to make the fabric lay down evenly on all the sides and corners.
6. Apply vinyl phrases or other embellishments to your plates. (Be Inspired and Be Yourself seem fitting this week since I’m heading to SNAP!).

These plates can be used for so many different things…plate walls/home decor, chargers for dinnerware, menu boards for next to your stove (with dry erase marker), jewelry holders, and much more. You could mod podge bowls even!! ALSO–MOST IMPORTANTLY…YOU CANNOT WASH THESE PLATES. THEY CANNOT GET TOO WET (lightly wash off with semi-damp rag if needed), so please be sure to find uses for these that do not involve needing washed (sorry to burst your bubbles!). Hope you enjoy them and be sure to share your mod podge plate creations with me over at The Cards We Drew!! And HUGE thanks to Plaid for sending me some Mod Podge to try out on this project!!!!
