Nubryte Smart Home Solution and Giveaway

Hey guys,

I just got a Nubryte Smart Home Solution. It is a touch pad light switch, security system all in one. It’s really neat. We haven’t lived in our home very long and it’s been 10+ years since we’ve owned a home so we haven’t been able to make any alterations like this one in some time. Anyway, I love this product. Have you every gotten one of those cool little gadgets that keeps surprising you with what it can do? I’ve been playing around with it and keep getting surprised by all of it’s functions. They’ve thought through this product so thoroughly.

Firstly, they give you a lot of resources for installing it yourself. In my case however, we purchased a forty year old home and though it oozes personality and I adore it, there are some drawbacks. One was the wiring in the home, it’s rather ancient. The pictures in the diagram were colorful and detailed and I’m sure if  I had a newer home, my husband would have had more luck with the install. He made a diligent effort, didn’t burn the house down, HA! and managed to not conduct electricity himself, but in the end we contacted an electrician. The electrician came in and took 15 minutes to have the thing working properly (it was also only $60.00 dollars).

The first thing I noticed was how clean and bright the images were on the screen. The responsiveness was sharp and intuitive (I hate it when my phone decides to open apps that I didn’t touch). I followed the wizard for the Nubryte (henceforth shall be called “Larsen Fam”). I named it and identified each light switch. We had it wired for our front porch and the family room. It is in the main entrance for our home and figured if any bad guys were going to come in they would have to walk passed this point to come upstairs or down. The wizard had me connect the device to our home’s wifi which was also simple. I set the time, the time zone and set the clock to read “am or pm” because I don’t know how to read military time.

After setting up the device, I went on to the security system (it looks like a shield). It asked me to set up a pin number before moving on I did and activated it. It starts a 60 second count down but you only have 30 seconds to vacate the room before the motion sensor activates. After this point, any motion will trigger the security system. Once triggered, it starts beeping for what seemed like another 30 seconds allowing you to put in your code or the bad guys to get the heck out of your house. From there it gave off this shrill, obnoxious house alarm sound and I received a text on my phone saying that motion was detected along with a video clip of the culprit. This provided for a few moments of amusement for the kids and I as we purposefully set off the alarm and danced to the alarm (needless to say the sound got old fast). Wouldn’t it be funny if the alarm was Notorious BIGGIE: Hypnotize? The bad guys would never leave.

The Weather function gives the temperature inside the house and out as well as the indoor humidity.

You can set the home page to either the weather, the time, or you can upload an image to show.

Another function is the ability to set a schedule for your light to come on or turn off automatically. You set the “Vacation”, “Wake up”, “Bedtime”, “Night light”, and “Motion”. For the “Vacation” setting, you tell the app the dates you’ll be away and the times you want your lights to turn on and off. The “Wake Up” setting tells the Nubryte to turn off. “Bedtime” tells it when to turn on the lights. “Night light” senses motion and will slowly dim to a subtle light so as not to blind you when you need to get up in the night and then dim back to off once it doesn’t’ sense motion any longer. Lastly, “Motion” is a setting that will turn off the lights if no motion is detected after a number of minutes that you dictate.

One last function is the daily usage provided in the “Energy Report”. The Nubryte will tell you how much you have used your lights for the day and tell you how much it costs to run those lights for the day. I was surprised at how little it actually costs to run the lights.

Lastly, there is an intercom function that allows you to call to where ever you have another unit installed. We only had the one so we weren’t able to use this function but it would definitely be handy when trying to get the family together upstairs without having to yell.

I already had the app downloaded in anticipation of the arrival of my Nubryte (ahem, Larsen Fam). The app behaves almost identically to the Nubryte itself. After I had opened the app, the “Larsen Fam” name appeared in the menu of my app and asked me if I wanted to sync them. I said yes and was all set. From the app I could turn the light on and off, set the security system and check the weather. Though it has now made me more lazy, now I can turn off the porch light from the drive way after I notice I’ve left them on and with the scheduling function, that doesn’t even happen anymore.

All in all, we have thoroughly enjoyed our Nubryte Smart Home Solution and it has already made our life easier. I especially like the security function and sleep better at night knowing it’s there watching out for us.  “To learn more benefits of having a smart home, check out the latest statistics on Safeatlast.co”
